Our family became interested in...
Our family became interested in Christian Science twenty-six years ago, when my father was healed of goiter. This healing took place about one month after treatment was begun. We were told by the practitioner who was helping us at that time about the Christian Science Sunday School, and we immediately started to attend. It was my privilege to attend Sunday school until I reached the age of twenty.
We have had many healings in our family. Some required much time to accomplish and others were instantaneous. There were healings of headaches, constipation, colds, and many other physical ailments. One of the most outstanding evidences of the power of Truth has been that of protection from aggressive suggestions that present themselves to those in the business world, such as smoking and drinking. Not long ago I was told that I should never be much of a success in the business which I am engaged in if I did not smoke and drink. I immediately rebuked this suggestion, knowing that the only business is God's business. Recently it has been difficult to get cigarettes in this city, and the very one who made the foregoing remark told me that I was lucky that I did not smoke. One must always obey Mrs. Eddy's injunction (Science and Health, p. 392) to "stand porter at the door of thought," if he would be protected from the suggestions of evil.
It has been my privilege to serve in the Christian Science Reading Room as an assistant, and also for many years in a branch church as an usher. I am grateful that I am living in an age when one can demonstrate the law of God in everyday living. God has certainty made plain His great love for His children through the works of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church as well as in a branch church, and for class instruction. —Rufus Carl Wiegman, Detroit, Michigan.
