Many years ago I was suddenly faced with what appeared a necessity for an operation for appendicitis. In my fear and pain I went to a dear friend who was a Christian Science practitioner. She quieted my fear and gave me my first Christian Science treatment. I spent the day at home and then returned to my position, healed. This trouble never returned, and from that time I have never doubted the ability of Christian Science, when its rules are sincerely and faithfully followed, to heal any disease or overcome any adverse condition.

Later there was evidence of a large abdominal tumor, and I was urged to have medical and surgical help. But I knew that I could trust Christian Science again, and I turned to a practitioner for release from this difficulty. I was led to study the Lesson-Sermon more earnestly, and to apply what I read more faithfully, but I was not healed.

Very much discouraged and praying for guidance, I looked in The Christian Science Journal and found the name of a practitioner whom I went to see. Through her faithful and patient work I was helped to study with more understanding. I learned that man is governed by God and not by physical laws that produce inharmony upon mind and body. There was aroused in me a desire to conquer all that was unlike God in my thought and to know more of Mrs. Eddy's teaching.
