"You have no choice but to live"
An ensign related to the writer that while he was on a ship escorting a convoy submarines were sighted late one afternoon. The submarines approached the escorts from both sides of the convoy in an effort to draw them away for the customary morning battle. The young man immediately turned to divine Mind in that threatening hour, and almost at once an angel stilled his fears with this comforting message: "You have no choice but to live."
He had learned in the Christian Science Sunday School that the real man expresses his Maker, and that man lives because God is Life; hence it was inconceivable that man could die, since cause could not be extinguished. Man, reflecting God, is the evidence of Life. This young student had also learned that when one turns to divine Mind, Spirit, with all his heart, a spiritual idea is available to protect, instruct, or heal any discordant situation.
The lad yearned to share the peace he felt, but knew of no Christian Scientists on board. Again an angel assured him, "The same Principle which governs you governs everyone, and the whole convoy is therefore under the mighty protecting mantle of Love." This realization, namely, that that which was true for him was likewise true for his brother, enabled him to rest. In the gray dawn the escort ships could see the submarines, but apparently could not be seen by them, because, instead of attacking, the enemy withdrew into the darkness; and the convoy arrived safely at its port.
