The One Remedy

"God is love." These three words understood in their tender significance, their omnipotent law, will remedy every ill, every threat, every would-be curse that the carnal mind in its enmity against Love can suggest. God, the omnipotent One, the only creator, is Love. This means that man is the expression of Love, is cradled in Love, provisioned by Love, immutably governed by Love, and maintained in immortality by Love divine. This is immutable truth, to be known and demonstrated by men. Christ Jesus lived and proved this truth, vanquishing for himself and others every form of enmity against it, from a sick and hungry multitude to the engulfing, death-bound tomb. He said, "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." So the Father has given to man, through reflection, the kingdom and the power and the glory of His unchangeable, infinite love.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, also proved the power of this truth over enmity in its most insidious and threatening forms, and consecrated her life to gaining a scientific understanding of it, whereby mankind may be enlightened and freed from bondage to the illusions of sense. Her discovery of this truth, and its demonstrable rules, she named Christian Science. On page 6 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she says: "'God is Love.' More than this we cannot ask, higher we cannot look, farther we cannot go." God is Love. These words understood fall in benediction on every troubled heart with irresistible quietude and power.

Today the world of sense stands in dire need of this dynamic truth. Every mother may find her son, or her daughter, as Love's idea, embraced in Love, safe in its omnipotence, and so finding, she may comfort not only her own heart, but all troubled hearts. She will feel that Love which enables us "to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God." How better can one aid in ending conflict? Where can enmity exist in the universe of Spirit, whose synonym is Love, whose intelligence is infallible, and whose law is invincible? Nowhere. Conflict cannot and does not exist anywhere in infinite Love, no matter what savagery of war the carnal mind may suggest. When this Love is reflected in the thoughts of men, the dreams of sense will cease even to seem to be. This is the one unfailing remedy.
