Man's Defense Against Animality

In times of war the grosser passions of the human race are unloosed to a startling degree. Millions of youths today find themselves in strange surroundings, many far from home and the influences which tend to protect their standards of decency and right living. Sometimes the monotony of service routine, or the unsatisfied desire for recreation and adventure, becomes an excuse for indulgence in sensuality. Yet it does nothing but degrade the individual, lower his or her standard of life through faithlessness to those most dear, and to the ideals which are the rock upon which a worth-while life must be built.

From firsthand sources in the different areas of military operations comes information which emphasizes the urgent need for us to do all we can to help our service men and women realize how they can shield themselves from these seductive, evil forces. We at home can effectively aid them with our realization of the universality of God's presence, and by knowing that the true life, consciousness, and action of every man and woman are really united to, and contained in, that one Supreme Being whose allness excludes the carnal mind and its aggressive sexual suggestions and false attractions.

A prominent political leader once likened the planks of political party platforms, made up of glowing promises, to molasses that is put out to catch flies. Likewise are the promises of pleasure and satisfaction in sensuality, presented by the carnal mind. With enticing lies it lures its victims, only to grip them in the vise of animality, which holds their thinking and living on a plane quite apart from all that is good and true.
