I am profoundly grateful to...
I am profoundly grateful to God for many proofs of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. My first and most outstanding healing was gradual and came about entirely through my reading of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
An eye specialist had pronounced my trouble cataract on both eyes and said that an operation would be necessary to prevent blindness. This was surely "man's extremity" and "God's opportunity." I feared an operation and gladly accepted the loan of the textbook from a friend. The healing was not accomplished through the first reading. At first I felt some prejudice toward Mrs. Eddy, but I realized that I was being benefited, and so continued to read, although without much understanding and with great difficulty, because direct light or sunlight was painful.
Over thirty years have elapsed since I received my healing, and I am nearing my eighty-fifth birthday. I read without glasses, using only a small book light, any ordinary print, including all the literature published by The Christian Science Publishing Society. I do hand sewing and thread my own needles without aid of any kind.
