Entering Our Protest
An individual's dominion over whatever would undermine his health and rob him of his God-given heritage of joy, happiness, and freedom is realized only as he understands the nothingness of evil and enters his protest against the claims of mortal mind. This counterfeit mind contradicts by aggressive suggestions the fact of spiritual creation. One's defense is to annul these lying suggestions by entering his protest against them and affirming the spiritual fact which they deny.
Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.384): "God never punishes man for doing right, for honest labor, or for deeds of kindness, though they expose him to fatigue, cold, heat, contagion. If man seems to incur the penalty through matter, this is but a belief of mortal mind, not an enactment of wisdom, and man has only to enter his protest against this belief in order to annul it."
This simple rule of protest is applicable to any inharmonious condition of human experience, whether it be a discordant condition of body or some problem relative to church, business, or government. We do not hesitate to protest against the encroachment of evil upon our constitutional rights as a free people. Neither do we hesitate to protest against unfair methods in business transactions. But are we not prone to accept evil suggestions regarding physical conditions because we more or less believe the so-called laws of mortal mind to be true? These supposititious laws base creation on matter, instead of Spirit.
