Christian Science Committee on Publication for Illinois Reports

Mrs. Eddy has written in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany'" (p. 128), "Christian Scientists abide by the laws of God and the laws of the land; and, following the command of the Master, they go into all the world, preaching the gospel and healing the sick." And Isaiah records (54:2), "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes."

We are grateful to report that erroneous statements regarding Christian Science are appearing less frequently in newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals edited in Illinois. Eleven such items were corrected by correspondence or other contacts during the past year. Without exception the authors of the misstatements became cordial and co-operative. The editor of one of the leading religious publications wrote as follows in answer to our request for a correction: "I appreciate the courtesy with which you write. With all my heart I thank you. It is so easy for matters like this to become subjects of contention instead of matters of understanding."

Excerpts from our Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly were sent to newspapers for current publication. During the past year many Illinois newspapers were suspended owing to the shortage of paper; also, newspaper space has been limited. However, the number of newspapers in the state accepting these weekly excerpts numbered about two hundred. Expressions of gratitude for them were received.
