Strength of Purpose

Each one of us needs to consider deeply the questions: What is the design or plan of God, divine Mind, for His universe— His man? What are the purposes of God for me?

Mortal mind would have us believe that there are as many differing and conflicting aims as there are human personalities and would suggest, both subtly and openly, that personal gain, personal domination, self-aggrandizement, or personal goodness provides sufficient purpose to satisfy man. Christian Science, however, reveals that there is in reality but one infinite Mind, God, whose purposes are good only, and that His infinite reflection, man and the universe, exists to express, in infinite individuality, His harmonious and universal purpose.

To be sure that one is being guided rightly, one needs to seek prayerfully to gain the understanding of God's plan for His idea and His universe and to seek it continually, that he may gain the ever-increasing strength, assurance, and freedom which obedience to Mind's purpose brings into his experience. Mrs. Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 506), "Spirit. God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels, and unfolds these thoughts, even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear."
