Opportunity Is Now
Opportunity humanly considered may be regarded as something akin to the experience of riding on a merry-go-round, where by dint of good timing, a suitable combination of conditions, or chance, the coveted brass ring may be seized. If you miss the first time, there may or may not be another chance at it before the ride ends.
Based on such illusiveness and insecurity, human existence would be futile and meaningless. But happily the study of Christian Science reverses this false concept, and reveals that the only real existence is spiritual, therefore subject only to the immutable laws of a perfect and changeless divine Principle, Love. This universal Principle, or Mind, neither supports nor cognizes such notions as time or chance, and reveals only the eternal now, perpetually controlled and governed by the divine intelligence. God knows no yesterdays or tomorrows, but only the forever, infinite now. "Now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation," says St. Paul (II Cor. 6:2).
The nowness of God's ever-presence, omnipotence, and goodness is definitely expressed by Mary Baker Eddy in her very first lines of the Preface to the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." "Day" she defines in part as (p. 584), "The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love;" and continuing her definition in the next paragraph she says, "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded."
