In the thirty-six years since my introduction to Christian Science, I have been healed, or witnessed the healing of members of my household, of nervous prostration, an organic difficulty of many years' standing, ptomaine poisoning, sciatic rheumatism, an ulcerated tooth, which was healed thirty minutes after help was requested, headaches, from which I had suffered since early youth, influenza, and lumbago. When it was thought that two members of the family would have to undergo amputations, in one case affecting a finger and in the other a thumb, healings in Christian Science were effected.

I have had three attacks of appendicitis, but the healing of the last has enabled me to face later experiences with an unfailing conviction of God's ever-presence and all-power. I was awakened with what appeared to be an acute repetition of the two previous attacks. I arose without disturbing anyone, and, taking the textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I went to a room apart from the family and locked the door.

There was no practitioner in the little village, but I was very sure I was not alone, for God's presence was so real I could talk to Him, and I said: "Father-Mother God, I have seen divine law operate, and have been definitely and permanently healed at other times, so I have faith and will be obedient. I'm listening. Show me the angel message that will deliver." Opening the book, I started at the first page of the Preface. When I reached page 14 I knew that this was what I must do: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,— neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well."
