Raleigh, North Carolina (First Church).

Members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Raleigh, dedicated their house of worship, located at 1400 Hillsboro Street, on Sunday, December 10, 1944.

A brief history of the church was read at the service, and follows in part. Christian Scientists first met as a group in Raleigh in 1912, and by 1914 regular Sunday services were being held in private homes.

Steps to secure recognition as a Christian Science Society were taken in 1917. In the same year services were held in the assembly hall of the Chamber of Commerce. Later, the members moved to a hall which was located near the corner of Fayetteville and Morgan Streets. In 1923 this society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Raleigh.

In July, 1925, the members made the first payment on the lot which is the site of the present church. The purchase was completed in January, 1928. The construction of a church building was begun in the spring of 1931, and services were held in the new edifice on the first Sunday of the following September.
