The Psalmist's words (119:34),...

The Psalmist's words (119:34), "Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law," sincerely and unceasingly voiced, led me little by little away from a tendency to gloomy introspection, an inferiority complex, and a nervous, shy nature, with its consequent dissatisfaction and gropings. It was some time before any great light began to accompany my pilgrimage. Then I renewed my prayer for "understanding," and, being willing to wait on it, I was helped at a time when my health was deteriorating rapidly.

One day as I sought the truth about God and Jesus, the answer came: Jesus is not God but the Son of God. Then I asked, "But who am I?" I had to wait a little longer for an answer to that question but through reading the life of Mary Baker Eddy, much became clear to me. All this time my greatest human need seemed to be one of healing of great physical difficulties, as well as unemployment. I was depressed and felt the future to be hopeless. However, when I sought a Christian Science practitioner help quickly came. I was completely healed of paralysis of the bowels and many attending ills.

Although I still was confident that Christian Science was the whole truth, and was continually grateful beyond words for my truly Wonderful healing, yet nagging fears and looking for material results hindered my progress. Once more I seemed to sound the depths. Although I received much help, there was much in my nature that was not truly Christlike, and the healing work had to be done in my thinking. With God's help it was accomplished, so that the light of Truth dawns more and more, rejoicing my heart. Fear of poverty, loneliness, and recurring neuralgia faded away. For the help I had from consecrated Scientists, I am truly grateful. For membership in The Mother Church and for class teaching I am also thankful.
