"God first"
On the table in the office of a Christian Science practitioner there is a framed motto which reads, "God first." Did every man, woman, and child understandingly obey this finding idea, what a happy world this would be! No longer would men place the possession of earthly riches or the lure of personal attachment first in their thought. Not merely by the winning of a global war or the attainment of an uncertain peace will humanity find the way to heaven on earth, but only by the worship of the one God, perfect Principle, or Mind, and obedience to His laws.
But to put God first in our hearts, thoughts, and lives, we need to understand Him correctly. Christian Science imparts this true understanding. It reveals to us the everywhereness of Spirit, the nowhereness of matter, the reality of good, the unreality of evil; in short, it presents the allness of God. The coming to human thought of the Christ-idea brings the desire and the ability to love God supremely.
Throughout human history men and women have loved their heavenly Father, divine Mind; but no one has attained the absolute assurance which Christ Jesus demonstrated namely, that God is not merely first, but All-in-all. With undeviating devotion, in face of an incredulous, even hostile world, he lived up to this positive conviction and proved its innate Rightness. He knew that glory, dominion, intelligence, and creative power all belong to God and through adherence to this fundamental truth he was enabled to heal the sick, command the wave, arouse the sinner, and resurrect himself from the grave.
