I have known no other religion than Christian Science and have been blessed with protection throughout my lifetime.

Service in the Navy has brought many occasions for putting to use what my study of Science has taught me of the protecting presence of God, as revealed by Mary Baker Eddy, the sole Leader of the Christian Science movement, because of their somewhat technical nature, some of my experiences would be difficult to relate, but I believe that the following will be clear.

My ship, a destroyer, had just put into a North African port when orders were received to get under way immediately to look for a downed aviator at a given position in the Mediterranean. We steamed about for some time. It became quite dark, and there was no moon until morning. Soon a small white light was sighted, and our course was altered to approach it. As we neared the light, lookouts reported hearing a whistle off the port bow, so we dropped a whaleboat and commenced searching the deep blackness. The search stretched into hours, and, despite the powerful searchlights which swept the surface, nothing could be found of the pilot. No explanation was made of the tiny white light we had found.
