Sunday School Observations

A teacher who had never had any contacts with small children was asked to substitute at a moment's notice in a class of five-year-olds. Turning to the one Mind for help, she began to ask the children about God. They seemed restive and uninterested, and one little girl persisted in taking her mirror out of her purse and smiling at the rosy countenance she saw reflected. Nothing the teacher could think of stopped her.

Then an idea from divine Love came to the teacher and she asked the child about the face she saw in the mirror. Did it smile when she smiled? Oh yes! Was there a blue ribbon like hers, or was it red? Why blue, of course! And was the dress the same, and the color of the eyes? And could the little girl in the mirror frown if the one in front was happy? Or look cross if the other smiled? Then the teacher asked why. Two other mirrors had come out and the whole class was absorbed in discovering how perfectly a reflection resembles its original. What better opportunity could have been given to bring out the great truth that God is All and man is His reflection! Mirrors were forgotten as the children thought about God as Love and what that meant about them as His reflection. Eyes shone with the joy of discovery, and eager answers tumbled out as to ways of verifying this spiritual reality in their own lives.

A group of very small children in a Christian Science Sunday School were much impressed by the assertion that God is ever present. "But I can't see Him." said one; and another, "No, and I never heard Him either."
