To have been reared in a home...
To have been reared in a home where Christian Science was practiced and demonstrated is a blessed privilege for which I shall never cease to be grateful to God. My father took up the study of Christian Science for the healing of sick headaches, and with the help of a practitioner was completely healed. Prior to that time he had been most miserable, spending more days a week at home in bed than at business.
When I was five I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School and I attended regularly until I reached the age of twenty. As a small child I became ill with scarlet fever. At that time my mother was not very much interested in Christian Science, so a physician was called. An abscess developed in one ear, causing much suffering. The physician finally said he could do nothing until the abscess broke. I then asked for Christian Science help. My mother consented, and my father said he would call the practitioner on the condition that I would not take any more of the medicine they were giving me. That evening the practitioner was called and I slept for the first time in several nights. By morning the abscess had broken, and the healing quickly followed. My mother was greatly impressed and she is now an active student.
Through the study and practice of Christian Science and with the help of practitioners on different occasions, I have frequently been healed and protected. There have been times when it was necessary to study diligently to prove the omnipotence of God, but the proof was always there when I was willing to let go of material concepts and accept the truth. On one occasion I had a nervous breakdown. The struggle was long and hard. Finally it was necessary for me to take a leave of absence from my work. At the end of a week and a half I was ready to return, and the healing was complete. I am grateful for the patience and love shown me by the practitioner.
