Here Is Heaven
The light which Christian Science throws upon Jesus' teachings is revealing their deeper spiritual meaning and their practicality in everyday experience. Even though one may feel that he knows little or nothing about God, it is possible to begin to know Him and to learn about man's relationship to Him. At this very point the demonstrable Science of Christianity starts its beneficent mission of lifting thought out of mental darkness, ignorance, and chaos and bringing heaven itself into the human experience.
Jesus depended upon and utilized his spiritual understanding in every situation. He constantly claimed his spiritual identity. He understood his true selfhood to be divine, and referred to himself once as "the Son of man which is in heaven" (John 3:13). His listeners did not always understand him, but we today who have accepted the teachings of Christian Science are beginning to understand what he meant, because as it is seen that the real man is coexistent with God, it is perceived, as Mary Baker Eddy says on page 36 of "No and Yes," that "Jesus' true and conscious being never left heaven for earth. It abode forever above, even while mortals believed it was here."
The Master's comprehension of his spiritual nature enabled him to meet the argument of Satan in what is called his temptation. In this test he stood mentally and spiritually with his spiritual being or identity, acclaiming his son-ship with God, and resisting evil's suggestions that he should deviate from what he knew to be his real selfhood. It was only after this trial that Jesus began to teach, preach, and prove the glory of divine being that had been revealed to him. Of a truth, he preached "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness" (Matt. 6:33), because he had proved his God-given dominion. Through his spiritual understanding of God and His law he healed sickness and sin and conquered death.
