"Doers of the word"

Colonist
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

It is a matter of record that human faith in a divine and merciful Providence is retained in this world not by those who profess, but by those who do. All the forms put together that Christianity has developed since its inception nearly two thousand years ago are as nothing compared with its living and breathing spirit. That is not a garment to be displayed on the outside, but a conviction deep within the human heart. Nor can it be simulated. ... The "unco' guid" whom the poet Burns withered in two words were found to have no feeling heart at all. They followed the substance, but missed the spirit. ... When will it be realized that the sum of life is not to seem, but to be; not to profess, but to do?
