Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities
[From a Soldier's Mother]
Four days after my son was operated on, I received a telegram from the commanding officer in charge of the hospital stating that the boy was critically ill. Immediately I telephoned them, and was advised to come at once. Naturally I started working metaphysically and left for the hospital, arriving there some thirty-six hours after I had received the message.
They had not expected him to be alive when I arrived. He had had a very high temperature for four days, and was in an oxygen tent. He had been given seven blood transfusions, and could take nourishment only as it was given through the veins. After talking with the two doctors in attendance, I called the Christian Science Wartime Minister, who had left word with the chaplain to be notified of my arrival.
