Sunday School Observations

A reserve Sunday school teacher seldom knows what class she is to have until Sunday school convenes, for it is her duty to substitute for a regular teacher. It may be that on a Sunday when she feels well prepared to bring the lesson to mature young people, the infant class needs her, or vice versa. Her most helpful preparatory work, therefore, is to acknowledge God as the great Teacher of us all, even while she makes ready for any call upon her.

A class of second-grade boys, accustomed to having a man teacher, seemed somewhat disappointed one Sunday to find a woman in his place. In vain the teacher sought to draw their attention to the Lesson, but restlessness, inattention, and playfulness held sway. Abruptly, the teacher stopped talking. Then she asked a question and answered it herself. "Do you know who is your Teacher? God is your Teacher. During our silent prayer this morning, I asked God to fill my mouth with words of Truth for this class, and the words I speak to you. God is giving to me. So you see, we all are being taught by God."

From that moment, quietness and attentiveness reigned.
