I am very grateful that I was able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School from babyhood until I was twenty. Through the understanding of God that I gained there I have had protection from sickness rather than physical healings. It was, therefore, very helpful to experience recently the practical effect of this understanding of God in the case of an accident.

I was cycling to the office one day, feeling very happy and conscious of God's presence, when the bicycle suddenly stopped and I was thrown over the handle bars, falling mostly on my hands but also hitting the ground with my face. As I picked myself up I declared immediately that man is the image and likeness of God and therefore untouched by any mortal beliefs. I could rejoice in spite of the evidence of the physical senses, knowing that I, the child of God, was quite unhurt, being entirely separate from the accident.

The bicycle was badly bent, and I had to push it some miles to the nearest shop. This gave me an opportunity to establish my thought more firmly in Truth. It was then that I became so detached from the whole experience that I laughed heartily at error's picture of me as I went over the handle bars, and that laughing at error broke its mesmerism.
