The healing of a neighbor's child...

The healing of a neighbor's child of a serious nervous malady awakened my interest in Christian Science. For five years we saw this child growing more helpless, but one week after treatment was begun in Christian Science she rapidly became normal, and went back to uninterrupted work at school.

In our family, the first healing accomplished through our reliance on God alone, without the aid of a practitioner, was that of a deep burn on our baby's arm. It healed so quickly that the next morning the large protective scab that had formed was dry and beginning to flake off. As I was dressing my baby, a neighbor stopped in. When she saw the scab she began to ask questions which I could not answer. When I said nothing was put on the arm to heal it, she told me I was cruel, and she walked away. However, that healing had made an impression, for she came back to ask more questions, and then bought a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. She became an earnest student and later had class instruction. She was healed of prejudice, I, of false responsibility, and the baby of the burn.

At one time, without warning I became ill while entertaining a guest who is a practitioner. I seemed to be losing consciousness and called for help, but no one heard. It was time for lunch to be served, so my maid came to announce it. I was able to ask her to call my guest to come to me. Not more than three strong affirmative statements of Truth were made before I was on my feet as though nothing had occurred. Later there were evidences of disturbances, and I felt as though an operation of some kind were going on. All this, however, was without pain. I was up and around as usual, and after two days all was well.
