Support

Once there was one who manifested good
So freely, so completely, that it seemed
That he could need no aid from fellow men.
And thus it was that his disciples slept
Through that sad hour in dark Gethsemane.

With patience he had tried to bring to them
The truth. He said, "Why callest thou me good?"
But they had looked to him as one who had
Dominion, nor had they perceived the fact
That, humanly, all mankind needs support.

This is a lesson all must learn sometime.
"There is none good but one," and in that One
Man and his brother man have equal share.
And each must help the other to attain
Dominion over all unlike the good.

As long as time remains to urge its claims
Of limitation, just that long must men
Stand guard through every minute of the day,
If they would not again hear that sad cry,
"Could ye not watch with me one little hour?"

Give, then, support to all whereon your thought
May for a moment rest. Know that God's power,
His wisdom, and His strength are with His man
Throughout all time, and that nought else can be
Present, or claim to have reality.
