Life

They brought me news that he I loved had gone
Beyond the world's pale rim of mortal life.
But I, who once had feared to have him go
Beyond my sight, knew Life's infinitude,
And straightway lifted thought to find him where,
Within the orbit of that Love divine
Which guards so tenderly its cherished sons,
He "lives and moves and has his being" still.
I saw the glowing light of knowledge new—
The certain knowledge that there is no death—
Forever shining like a radiant star.
I felt the glory and the warmth of Life
Enfolding all with radiance undimmed.

I know he is not gone, nor am I left;
Man dwells forever in the realm of Mind.
