Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication

How encouraging are these words: "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: ... and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together."

We are glad to record that another year has passed with no adverse criticism or remarks concerning Christian Science in any newspaper published in the country, but that, on the contrary, there have been two occasions when it was mentioned favorably. We welcomed these as a sign of the awakening of public thought. Our relations with the press have continued on the most friendly and harmonious footing, and this in spite of the fact that it was thought advisable to discontinue the advertisements of our services in two of the Stirling newspapers, and in two in other towns, for a few months. These have now been reinstated, and in every case the editors were glad to make room for the notices again. This advertising work with the press helps the Committee to maintain contact with the various editors during a time when, owing to war restrictions, all of them have had to cut down space.

It is very gratifying to recognize the growing appreciation of The Christian Science Monitor, for it is always gratefully, even eagerly, accepted when offered. It is now so widely quoted by the leading newspapers in this country that most editors are aware of its position and standing in the newspaper world. Copies have been supplied regularly to one editor, who is, with several members of his staff, an interested reader, and who was very much disappointed when his subscription under the "exchange for advertising" plan had to be discontinued.
