Welcoming Them Home!

"Above the waves of Jordan, dashing against the receding shore, is heard the Father and Mother's welcome, saying forever to the baptized of Spirit: 'This is my beloved Son.' What but divine Science can interpret man's eternal existence, God's allness, and the scientific indestructibility of the universe?" To mothers and fathers contemplating the end of the war and the return of their loved ones, these are timely and inspiring words of welcome addressed to her "beloved students" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, on page 206 of "Miscellaneous Writings."

Where, indeed, except in Christian Science can we find that spiritual understanding of God's allness and ever-presence and of man's essentiality and usefulness as a witness to God's nature? This understanding is what we all need today to help us in preparing for our loved ones' return, and to aid them in making the adjustment to civilian life. Simon Peter recognized the futility of turning elsewhere than to the Christ when he said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life." Only by seeing man as a spiritual, eternal idea, inseparable from divine Mind, established and sustained by divine Life, Truth, and Love, can we deny and destroy the erroneous suggestions of mortal mind, which press for acceptance when we think of postwar aims and adjustments.

Already many are coming home from military service, and their number will increase at the close of hostilities; so let us see that the sureness of divine guidance which Moses recognized, can be proved today: "Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation."
