"A deep sincerity"

"Our thoughts beget our actions; they make us what we are. Dishonesty is a mental malady which kills its possessor; it is a sure precursor that its possessor is mortal. A deep sincerity is sure of success, for God takes care of it," writes our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in a letter on page 203 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany." With penetrating insight Mrs. Eddy points at once to sincerity as the quality which ensures success on our mental journey to peace, health, and holiness.

All of us are desirous of experiencing health and well-being, but are we really honest and sincere in our efforts to attain that goal? Are we willing to sacrifice our own pet theories and prejudices and to work humbly and conscientiously to eliminate all false traits of character and spurious beliefs that tend to retard our progress heavenward? An honest searching of our motives and aims may perhaps surprise and dismay us, but this is no cause for discouragement, but rather should spur us on to further persistent and consistent right effort.

If we were taking piano lessons we should practice each lesson thoroughly, so that our progress would be continuous. So must it be in our study of Christian Science. We must strive to put into practical use the lessons we learn from our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and Mrs. Eddy's other writings.
