I am truly grateful to God for...
I am truly grateful to God for the freedom, activity, and joy that Christian Science has brought to me. My first knowledge of Truth that makes free came when, as a small child, I suffered from severe earaches. After my mother began the study of this Science, she asked a practitioner to call at our home. The practitioner took me in her arms, rocked me, and gave me Christian Science treatment. I fell asleep and awakened healed, happy and refreshed. This occurred several times; then the earaches ceased, and they have never returned. The peace that came with these experiences made such a deep impression on me that as I grew up I never wanted anything except Christian Science treatment for any ill, and have not resorted to medicine since that first healing.
Soon after this healing we moved to a small town in New Mexico, where there were few other students of Christian Science, and it was there we learned of absent treatment. Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, tells us in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 179), "Science can heal the sick, who are absent from their healers, as well as those present, since space is no obstacle to Mind." An experience that proved this statement occurred when my mother was bathing me one evening and discovered that my body was covered with a rash. Wishing to be obedient to the laws of the community, she called the health officer. He was out of town and another physician came who pronounced the disease scarlet fever. Help was asked of a Christian Science practitioner in a distant city by telegraph. By morning I was completely normal. This is but one of many proofs that "the word of God is quick, and powerful."
It was not until we moved to the city and I entered the Christian Science Sunday School that I desired to study and learn more of Truth. Through Sunday school, church membership, and the blessed privilege of class instruction I have learned in some measure to utilize the truth for myself but for the early help of the practitioners I am very grateful.
