"Fear not"

The Boissevain Recorder

The angels that came to the shepherds at Bethlehem prefaced their message with the words, "Fear not." These words Jesus must have borrowed from them, for they were his favorite words. We hear them from his own lips often in the gospel message. He meets us at every turn of life with the cheery invocation. It was the watchword of his journey and warfare. The disciples often heard it when troubled or cast down; when they tell at his feet trembling he lifted them up with the words, "Fear not." When their ship was sinking in the storm they heard the cry. "Fear not." When they shivered at the thought of all the dangers and foes that awaited them, there came the reassurance with the voice of Christ [Jesus], "Fear not little flock." When he was leaving them, one of his last words was. "Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
