I gratefully testify to the healing...
I gratefully testify to the healing power of Christian Science. Some little time ago I was confined to my bed with German measles. It was ten o'clock on the second night before I discovered what the trouble was. I noticed the time particularly because I thought it was rather a late hour to call for help. My wife telephoned to an experienced Christian Scientist for me, and I was healed within twenty minutes. It was just as though someone had removed a heavy covering from me. I am very grateful for this healing, not only for the great physical relief that occurred, but because it was a definite proof to me that Christian Science can and does heal instantaneously.
Another healing for which I am very grateful took place one Saturday afternoon over five years ago. Earnestly desiring to be healed of the desire for tobacco. I read an article in the Sentinel which contained the statement that matter had neither intelligence to suggest anything real, sensation to impart anything real, nor power to enslave in any way. This statement was inspired by Mrs. Eddy's words on page 218 of Science and Health, "Resist the temptation to believe in matter as intelligent, as having sensation or power." I was instantaneously healed of the smoking habit of many years' standing. I had smoked from twenty to forty cigarettes a day. For three days after that I tried to smoke, for the habit was strongly entrenched, but the tobacco tasted terrible, and after the third day all thought of putting my hand into my pocket for the package of cigarettes left me.
Words can never express my gratitude for this healing. The healing was realized when the light broke into my consciousness that tobacco was just another form of matter. I had not thought of it in just that way before. I should like to add that the desire for tea and coffee left me at this moment also, and I have never tasted them since, nor had the slightest desire to do so. The social drinking habit disappeared also from my thought and experience. For these healings I am more grateful every day.
