Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Bradford, Pennsylvania (First Church).—On Sunday, October 4, 1942, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Bradford, held two dedication services at the new church edifice. Following the regular Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly a brief history of the church was read by the First Reader.

In April, 1895, the local church was organized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. A charter was granted under the laws of the state of Pennsylvania at Smethport on June 8, 1899. A Sunday school was established in 1900. Services at the time were being held in Pompelon Hall and later moved to the McAlpin Building, where the first public Reading Room was opened.

Beginning in 1913, the services were held in the Women's Literary Club, and continued there until May, 1942, when the first services were held in the new church.
