The Heavenly City

As I pause in deep meditation,
Come visions of radiant light
From a city the Father hath builded,
To banish forever the night.
Oh, heavenly walls of salvation,
Illumined with light from above,
That the righteous may enter this city
Of God's compassionate love!

This city is here and about us,
Not terror of death or of sin.
Harmonious the state of our being,
Assurance of heaven within.
The sorrows of mortal existence
Will vanish forever away;
The kingdom of God is within us
And heaven is here today.
