In a Sunday school lesson which appeared in a recent issue of the Manchester Herald, a contributor expressed the hope that spiritual healing as demonstrated by Jesus might some day be restored to the world. Will you kindly grant me space for comment?

In 1866, Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christianly scientific healing and denominated it Christian Science. Suffering at the time from an injury which had been pronounced fatal, she was immediately healed. Since then the church she established on this basis of Christ-healing has spread throughout the civilized world. In the approximately three thousand branches of her church, testimonies are given weekly of healings of sickness as well as of sin. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy speaks these words of comfort (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good."
