In a recent issue you refer to the belief of many spiritualists that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, was at one time a spiritualist, and acted as a spiritualist medium. The Christian Science church has very fully documented particulars of Mrs. Eddy's life, and among the papers in the possession of the church there is evidence that Mrs. Eddy disagreed with spiritualism, but none that she was ever a spiritualist, or a spiritualist medium. The whole trend of her life and thinking was in the opposite direction.

That does not mean, of course, that Mrs. Eddy, or Christian Scientists generally, have any antagonism or ill-feeling towards spiritualists, but only that they do not agree with their views. Christian Scientists recognize the right of anyone to believe and practice his own teachings, and they are naturally glad to concede to others this right which they claim for themselves. Mrs. Eddy had a number of friends who were spiritualists, and on several occasions lived with spiritualists.
