In deep gratitude to God, to Christ Jesus, and to Mary Baker Eddy, I wish all to know of the wonderful help it is possible to receive from the study and application of Christian Science.

At the time I took up its study I had lost all hope of happiness, and was despondent. Although I am five feet, six and one half inches tall, I weighed only one hundred and seven pounds.

I had been, as I thought, a student of the Bible, but had put it aside finally as impossible to understand and full of contradictions. At this point my brother, who is not a Christian Scientist, suggested that since one of our relatives had been healed of hay fever overnight through Christian Science treatment, I might try it. "Man's extremity" is indeed "God's opportunity." My mother borrowed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook by Mary Baker Eddy, from the local Reading Room, and I read about half of it that night. Many of the things I had read in the Bible were recalled, and I indeed found Science and Health to be a "key" to the Scriptures.
