Enlisted

Enlisted yet? Foes must be met
And conquered. Need'st thou ask?
O'er sickness, sin, and death to win
The victory is thy task.

Enlist today, do not delay,
While foes more subtle grow;
Thine armor don, thy sword gird on,
Into the battle go!

Thy breastplate bright of knowing right,
With truth thy loins begirt,
Thy feet all shod with peace of God—
Can evil harm or hurt?

Thy shining shield, it will not yield—
Thy shield of faith serene;
The fiery darts of wicked hearts
Are quenched upon its sheen.

The Spirit's sword, God's holy Word,
Held in thine hand secure;
Upon thine head—begone all dread—
Salvation's helmet sure.

Equipped complete from head to feet,
In God's whole armor stand;
The devil's wiles, deceitful smiles,
Henceforth thou shalt withstand.

Enlist today—do not delay,
The battle doth not cease:
In God's might strong, to conquer wrong
And fill men's hearts with peace!
