Deep gratitude for Christian Science...

Deep gratitude for Christian Science and for the spiritual interpretation Mrs. Eddy has given of the Bible prompts me to sent this testimony.

On awakening one morning in 1941 I felt impelled to read the story of the flood as recorded in Genesis. Verses 17 and 18 of chapter 7 arrested my attention, especially the words, "And the ark went upon the face of the waters." Much thought was given to the definition of the word "ark" as found on page 581 of Science and Health. The waters were seen as having no power to drown the understanding of Spirit. On page 11 of "Unity of Good" Mrs. Eddy writs, "Jesus taught us to walk over, not into or with, the currents of matter, or mortal mind." And on page 132 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" she writs, "The Christian Scientist knows that spiritual faith and understanding pass through the waters of Meribah here—bitter waters; but he also knows they embark for infinity and anchor in omnipotence." These and other references in connection with this line of thought were studied during the day, and a great sense of peace, security, and joy was experienced.

When darkness fell the sirens sounded, and it was soon apparent that a concentrated attack by a large force of bombers was being made on that part of the city where I resided. As the night wore on, the raid increased in intensity and the building was continually rocked by high explosives. All through this attack, which was the heaviest experienced, the spiritual good gained from the day's study remained established in my consciousness and it seemed easy to keep thought lifted above the testimony of the senses. The building and all those in it came through this attack quite untouched.
