"Christian Science is always the most skillful surgeon, but surgery is the branch of its healing which will be last acknowledged," our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has told us on page 402 of Science and Health.

About five years ago, on the eve of starting on a long motor journey, I had a severe fall and fractured my right wrist. There was considerable swelling and much pain, and I could not dress myself. Since I am a concert pianist, this incident appeared to be a major disaster. I asked a Christian Science practitioner to help me, and received a spiritual uplift that relieved me of much fear. The arm did not set, however, thought the pain was less intense.

Since it appeared necessary to do so, I started on the motor journey of about three thousand miles. I had many faint moments, but I did not put my arm in a sling or bandage it in any way, and I refused to look at it. When I finally did look at it, I was shocked by its appearance. But I knew a Christian Science practitioner was working faithfully for me, and I rested gratefully in this assurance.
