About fifteen years ago I had...

About fifteen years ago I had reached a stage of dissatisfaction with my mode of living and felt a great desire for something different. This desire, or prayer, was answered in what seemed to be a wonderful manner.

At that time, I was serving as an engineer on a ship which had berthed at Oakland, California. On returning from a shore visit one night, I found the ship in total darkness. Arriving at my cabin, I stretched out my hand to find the handle of the door, and found a parcel attached to it. Removing the parcel and opening the door, I threw the parcel into the cabin, not knowing at the time that I had reached out in the darkness and found light, for the parcel contained Christian Science literature left by a devoted worker attached to the local literature distribution committee.

This literature was read and reread whilst on the voyage to England, and I realized that here was divine guidance which plainly said, "This is the way, walk ye in it."
