Leaning on God

Threats by aggressor nations to invade countries where the enemy's foot has not yet trod, or suggestions of fear that still greater horrors may be inflicted by the forces of destruction upon those that oppose them, will not dismay individuals and peoples who have placed their whole trust in God. Students of the Bible who have gained a comprehension of its rich promises through their study of Christian Science place reliance on the teachings and statements of Christ Jesus, the prophets, and the apostles. They understand the protection and safety implied in Moses' words to his children, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms."

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, knew what it meant to be threatened with bodily harm while she was carrying on her crusade in behalf of enslaved mankind. But she neither feared nor faltered in her holy mission.

In her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 (p.15) Mrs. Eddy wrote, "In the eighties, anonymous letters mailed to me contained threats to blow up the hall where I preached; yet I never lost my faith in God, and neither informed the police of these letters nor sought the protection of the laws of my country. I leaned on God, and was safe."
