In 1908, I left home to take...

In 1908, I left home to take a position as governess in a home where interest in Christian Science had been awakened. I was given the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, to read, and commenced daily reading of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. Since then I have relied entirely on Christian Science. Words could never express what it has meant to me. It changed my whole outlook on life, and the Bible, which I had loved from childhood, was illumined with vital meaning and became practical in my daily life.

I am very grateful for the preventive as well as the healing power of Christian Science. I have not spent one day in bed in all these years, although there have been testing times, during which I was very grateful for the loving help of a faithful practitioner. During one physical trouble, the suggestion of passing on came several times to me, but I kept claiming my oneness with Life, God, knowing that man is spiritual and not material, and that, as St. Paul says, "In him we live, and move, and have our being." Since this healing I have realized what Mrs. Eddy meant when she said, "Trials are proofs of God's care" (Science and Health, p. 66), for one feels strengthened by standing for the truth at such times.

I am very grateful for the way my need of supply has always been provided. I have often been helped by the words of the twenty-third Psalm, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want," and the words in Science and Health (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
