"He maketh wars to cease"

THE great majority of people on earth today desire to see a permanent end to war. Is this possible in the light of history and the seeming fact that at present war is more than ever in evidence among men? How can war be ended so that it will not again occur?

It is commonly believed by mankind that there will always be war, because there always has been war from time immemorial. But is not this because the nature of God has not been understood, and consequently there has been little understanding of and true obedience to the law of God, good? Humanity has tried to plan its activities from a material standpoint, and often with little understanding of God, divine Principle. War has no place in the divine economy, in the real creation as revealed by Christian Science. In this real existence peace reigns eternally. In Mind there are no warring elements; there is no friction, no discord. Immediately this is seen, even in a degree, some fear is lifted, and the possibility of war being ended begins to be discerned. Why do men go to war? Because they believe that they can attain their aims and desires only in this way. Yet history shows that wars of aggression tend to sow the seeds of future wars.

Evil conditions, wherever they may obtain, are brought about through ignorance of God, good, and of His omnipresence, omnipotence, and ever-availability to heal and save. For mankind generally have not yet grasped the fact that man is the image and likeness of God, the perfect spiritual idea, and that the universe is entirely spiritual and good, as the first chapter of Genesis teaches. Therefore it is evident that a true and exact knowledge of God, Love, and the practical application of this knowledge, are needed to destroy the mortal belief of war and hate.
