In recent issues of your paper...

[Lyman S. Abbott, Committee on Publication for the State of Michigan, in the News, Detroit]

In recent issues of your paper three articles have appeared which are unfair to a large number of intelligent people. The author does not mention by name any of the groups of "cultists" to which he is opposed, but makes a sweeping condemnation of every system of healing except that of the medical and surgical practitioners. While he did not mention Christian Science by name, there is no doubt that it is one of "the four major cults" mentioned in the fifth paragraph of the first article of the series.

Christian Science is now a world-wide and well-established religion. There are at present some thousands of recognized Christian Science churches and societies, each of which is a testimonial to the healing of sickness and sin. The first church of the denomination was chartered in Massachusetts in 1879.
