At an early age I drifted away...
At an early age I drifted away from the church to which my parents belonged, and did not attend any church steadily; but due to much sickness and an unhappy home condition I prayed earnestly for a way out of my difficulties.
My daughter made the acquaintance of a child who attended the Christian Science Sunday School, and I decided to send both my son and my daughter there; why, I did not understand at the time, because I knew nothing about the religion. Looking back now I can see God's loving care and guidance leading me His way.
I began to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and at the end of six months I was lifted out of inharmonious home conditions. No one but God could have brought about the complete release in the manner in which it occurred. The way always opened, even when to mortal sense all seemed confused. Everything was beautifully taken care of without human planning on my part.
My first healing in Christian Science was one of fear. When my son was three years old, he was playing one morning in my mother's yard and managed to get out and wander away. We searched and telephoned everywhere, and I was frantic with worry. Late in the afternoon, something impelled me to call a practitioner who resided in another state. Five minutes after I left the telephone, a sense of peace such as I had never known, came to me; all fear and confusion were gone. After I arrived at my mother's home my son was returned by two men, who had found him wandering around and had taken care of his feeding, holding him until they learned his address, which I had given to the police.
A few more years passed, during which time I began to attend a Christian Science church, but I was still not relying on Truth for healing. My son became ill with mumps, and I also contracted it, and seemed much worse than the boy, becoming so upset that I called my mother's physician, who prescribed a course of treatment. After he left, it came to me very forcibly that I was certainly not trusting God, so I arose and called a practitioner with whom I had become acquainted. In two hours both my son and I were completely free. The next afternoon, which was Friday, we were out walking, which amazed me, although I knew our healing to be entirely in accordance with Christian Science teachings. On Monday morning the school physician examined my son and permitted him to stay in school because he could find no evidence of any diseased condition. This was yet another proof of the healing power of Truth, and from that time we have relied absolutely on God's power to heal every discordant condition, and I can truthfully say that when we have been obedient to Mrs. Eddy's teaching, it has never failed.
I should like to relate another healing. While hurrying to keep an appointment, I turned my foot and displaced a bone. The pain was excruciating, and in two hours the ankle had swollen to twice its normal size. Work was taken up for me, and though suffering greatly, I was able to prepare the evening meal. Later on I heard the bone snap back into place like the snapping of a finger, and the next morning all evidence of the mishap had completely gone.
I have been healed of constipation, ivy poisoning, ptomaine poisoning, influenza, rheumatism of the arms and legs, a growth under my right arm, lameness, sprained ankles, coughs and colds, and a serious throat infection. For the last-named trouble a practitioner was called, and with two treatments I was out of bed and doing my own housework. I have also been healed of an acid condition which caused my hands to bleed, and which had resisted all previous attempts to cure it.
Another healing I should like to mention was of a bruised upper leg due to a fall down a flight of fourteen steps, when I landed against an iron doorstop. This healing came through my own work and took about three months. Fear tried to enter, because there was a hard lump about the size of a fist, which seemed to be unyielding. My leg was black from hip to knee, but I did not lose five minutes from my work because of it, and only my son and my daughter knew of the condition. It was beautifully healed after I held to the knowledge of my perfect selfhood, and of God's complete control. With the help of a practitioner I was also healed of a broken arm.
A great many of the healings have come about through my own work, but for others I was grateful to God that I could call upon faithful Christian Science practitioners, whose unselfish work and love lift us up and strengthen us in our time of need.
I am daily thanking God for His goodness and am trying to see His creation as He made it, perfect and wholly spiritual, with man reflecting Him as a complete spiritual idea, made in His image and likeness. I can truthfully say that all the good and happiness that have come to us have come through Christian Science. A quick temper and other unlovely traits are yielding, though slowly, to the power of Truth, and I am daily trying to let more of the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus" come into my human experience. In a small measure I have been enabled to help others, and my hope and prayer are that I may continue in this work with a larger understanding and God's help.
I sincerely thank God for giving us Mrs. Eddy; for the teachings of Christ Jesus, made so clear through our Leader's unselfed love for humanity; and for the knowledge that we all can avail ourselves of Christian Science, and can apply it to our everyday problems. —(Mrs.) Marcella Parks Rosamond, Teaneck, New Jersey.
The simplicity which was in Christ [Jesus] is a boon to the lowly. He did not establish a religion for the learned and rich only, but for the lowliest of men. Little children can enter into the secrets of his kingdom.—Selected.
