In trying to express my deep gratitude to Christian Science...
In trying to express my deep gratitude to Christian Science for the many healings I have experienced, I should like to include my appreciation to the editors of and contributors to our periodicals, whose articles and testimonies were most helpful to me when I first began the study of Christian Science; also for the Reading Room, where I was a frequent visitor. I read every testimony as soon as I received the periodicals, and gradually learned to be grateful for the many wonderful healings they contained. As I studied and read I began to realize that "God is no respecter of persons." I gained a great deal of comfort from the realization that as a child of God I, too, could not be excluded from His kingdom.
I turned to Christian Science after suffering for a period of years from a complete nervous collapse resulting in many wrong conditions, such as weakness, intense fear, insomnia, and neuralgia around the heart region, from which I suffered frequent attacks, and for which morphine was always administered. I tried numerous physicians and specialists of all kinds and seemed to get no better. During the years of illness I was tested and X-rayed many times in various hospitals. After some time I again entered a hospital for further tests, and while there I turned my thoughts towards Christian Science, which had been presented to me about a year previously, and which, in my fear and ignorance, I had rejected.
Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 382), "A patient thoroughly booked in medical theories is more difficult to heal through Mind than one who is not." This statement was rather encouraging to me, for the healing was slow and the struggle severe. With the help of a practitioner, whose sincerity and kindness enabled me to grasp from the start something of the logic of Christian Science, and which she so lovingly and patiently presented to me on my first and many other visits with her, I was healed of all the difficulties, including the need of wearing glasses and a chronic case of constipation. I have had many other healings too numerous to mention.
