I want to express gratitude to God, through the periodicals...
I want to express gratitude to God, through the periodicals so wisely and lovingly provided for us by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the blessings which Christian Science has brought into my life. It has been my privilege to know of this beautiful religion since I was a child, and, while I have not in the intervening years always been an earnest student, in the measure that I have faithfully applied my knowledge of Truth I have been healed, protected, and guided.
I am grateful that my mother was courageous enough to leave the church in which she had been active for a number of years and to take her stand for Christian Science at a time when there were only two or three students of this Science in the town in which we were living. I am grateful that she guided my sisters, my brother, and me so lovingly into the truth that later, when we moved to a town where there was a Christian Science Society, we were, from the first, regular in Sunday school and church attendance, and have been privileged with her to be active in various ways in church work.
An experience which greatly enriched my confidence and faith in the power of Christian Science to heal was the overcoming of acute indigestion. The attack came so suddenly, when I was alone in the house, that I was unable to call a practitioner for help. I had been studying our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for several hours that morning; and at the time when I seemed to be losing consciousness a sentence from this blessed book came to my thought—a sentence which contained the necessary spiritual idea to slay this Goliath of mortal sense. Over and over again I repeated with growing faith and conviction (ibid., pp. 384, 385), "Sickness, sin, and death must at length quail before the divine rights of intelligence, and then the power of Mind over the entire functions and organs of the human system will be acknowledged." Truth did prevail, and I was entirely well within the hour.
