"I am come that they might have life"

"The water I shall give," thus spake our Lord,
"Shall be in him a well of water." So
I heard him speak adown the centuries.
And lo! the understanding of the Life
Divine, flooding with tender light and grace
The waiting thought that listens and adores,
Dissolves the shadows, recently so dread,
And God is glorified on earth once more.

Dear Lord and Master, may we ever be
Attent and humble to thy healing word!
Not only then and there, but now and here,
Christ's living presence, evermore adored,
Speaks to the listening ear and eager heart;
Pours out its bounty, inexhaustible;
Tells its rare secrets; lavishly bestows
Its priceless treasures, ever new and fair.

"The water I shall give," to us is given.
The glorious knowledge of the Life divine
Has come again to earth-bound human hearts,
Lifting them from the sod, planting their feet
Upon the upward, shining way of Love.
The promised Comforter is with us now,
The living proof of all the Master taught,
Crowning with gracious peace our daily task.
