the world today there are many individuals, especially those unacquainted with the teachings of Christian Science, who believe that man is born of the flesh; that he is living in a wholly material universe, or perhaps a universe both material and spiritual, and that the inhabitants of this universe are subject to many hardships and disasters over which they have no control.

In a recent issue, a fair-minded article appears on the subject of Christian Science, but the caption of this article may be misleading to your readers.

In an issue of your paper a writer states: "Emphatically I say that there is not such a thing as a Christian civilization, any more than there is such a thing as a Christian Science.
The buildings where our church services are held were not damaged, and with some exceptions the services went on regularly; for special reasons two societies had to move, one temporarily.
The closing date for the receipt of applications for membership in The Mother Church is now approximately one month in advance of the date of the admission instead of two weeks as heretofore.

Christian Science was brought to my attention in 1908, after I had experienced years of suffering, during which time practically every material means of relief had been tried and had failed, and eminent physicians and surgeons had pronounced my case hopeless, giving me but a few months to live and saying that nearly every organ in my body was diseased as a result of typhoid fever and complications, which I had had several years before.
In trying to express my deep gratitude to Christian Science for the many healings I have experienced, I should like to include my appreciation to the editors of and contributors to our periodicals, whose articles and testimonies were most helpful to me when I first began the study of Christian Science; also for the Reading Room, where I was a frequent visitor.

I should like to say with the Psalmist, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.
I want to express gratitude to God, through the periodicals so wisely and lovingly provided for us by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for the blessings which Christian Science has brought into my life.
With the desire to express sincere gratitude and joy for the numberless blessings I have received because of Christian Science, and perhaps to encourage someone else along the way, I send this testimony of healing.
I am grateful that my mother had the moral courage and foresight to take up the study of Christian Science many years ago, when it seemed that there was much resentment and hatred against the truth all around her.
