The Universal, Sovereign Panacea

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, makes these illuminating statements (p. 144): "When the Science of being is universally understood, every man will be his own physician, and Truth will be the universal panacea;" and(P. 407): "If man is not victorious over the passions, they crush out happiness, health, and manhood. Here Christian Science is the sovereign panacea, giving strength to the weakness of mortal mind,—strength from the immortal and omnipotent Mind,—and lifting humanity above itself into purer desires, even into spiritual power and good-will to man."

These statements are correlative to Christ Jesus' declaration, when he said "to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and truth shall make you free." These statements reveal the fact that Truth is the all-embracing, perfect remedy; that Truth is readily available to everyone who is receptive to it, who spiritually understands, abides by, and obeys its laws. Anciently Moses, Isaiah, Daniel, and Jeremiah perceived, and in some measure proved, the power of Truth as "the sovereign panacea." Christ Jesus proved this power to be practical by healing sin and all manner of disease, and by overcoming "the last enemy."

In modern times Christian Science has revealed the divine power of Truth, the universal, sovereign panacea, for which mortals have longed since the dawn of human history. In their search, however, mortals have looked to matter, but have failed to find therein any all-embracing remedy, or even any genuine remedy at all. Is it any wonder that, because of the failure of these efforts, the finger of derision should be pointed at what is called a "cure-all"?
